Eat HealthyThe new year is here. Have you made your resolutions? Don’t worry if you haven’t! The number 1 resolution is to lose weight. For so many of us, losing weight can be overwhelming. Figuring out how to lose weight, which program to use, working out, etc can be overwhelming. We end up giving up by February.
This year, make a vow to just be healthier. There are many ways you can focus on getting healthier and they don’t necessarily involve losing weight. By focusing on getting healthier, many people lose weight as a result.
Let’s take a look at some ways you can focus on getting healthier. Focus on one or more of the suggested ways before for 30 days. It’s said that habits start to form after 21 days. So why not try one? Hey, it’s just 30 days!
30 Days Adding More Fruits and Vegetables
Focus on eating more fruits and vegetables. It’s easy to have a meal or snack that contains a meat and a carbohydrate like bread or pasta. Or sometimes our snacks involve crackers, cookies, or another type of sweet. Some ways to hit your daily fruits and vegetables goal:
.For breakfast, add a serving of berries to your cereal or a banana. Find something you can grab and go should you be on the run.
.For snack, prepare cut up celery with peanut butter, carrots with 2 tablespoons of hummus, an apple with string cheese.
.For lunch, instead of ordering the french fries, order the fruit cup instead of a small salad. Some places even serve steamed vegetables.
.For dinner, learn to roast vegetables in the oven. They taste delicious with just a little bit of olive oil and some salt and pepper.
30 Days Without Sodas And/Or Alcohol
Eliminate sodas or alcohol for 30 days. I know it sounds hard! But take things day by day. One can of soda has about 150 calories. And that’s just for 12oz! Beer averages about 110-150 calories per can as well. Even if you are drinking diet sodas, the artificial sweeteners can actually be confusing your body with the sweet taste yet zero calories. You body can actually end up craving more sweet things because of it.
.Try adding lemon or lime to your water.
.Find a large glass or thermos that you enjoy drinking out of and start keeping it at your desk at work or with you at home. Drink a glass of water before you eat and after. You might be surprised at how it could help cut your daily calories for that meal, too!
.Try club sodas if you miss out on the bubbles in your water. And add some lemon or lime to that as well. Or even try crushing up some strawberries and mint!
30 Days Adding Physical Activity
.Add some type of physical activity to your day.
.Add a 30 minute walk after work. Have a dog to walk? Take them with you! It doesn’t have to be anything fast, but just get yourself moving. What about riding your bike?
.Enjoy working in your yard? Plant some new flowers or pull weeds.
.If it’s too cold to enjoy the outdoors, take a stroll at the mall or even Target.
.Parking further from the door to the grocery store and even taking the stairs versus taking the elevator can help.
.And if you are up for a new adventure, check out our article on Zumba!
So the real key for this year is to focus on just getting yourself healthy instead of focusing on weight loss and numbers and your scale. Who knows, by focusing on being healthy, you may lose some weight in the process! And as always, please consult your doctor before beginning a new exercise program or weight loss program.
