Oh, my tulips !

There were four tulips, and now there is only one. I don't know if the cats ate them...

and that four feet... change my life

What greater thing is there for human souls than to feel that they are joined for life - to be with each other in silent unspeakable memories. ~George Eliot

Rock for Hunger

Rock For Hunger is going to end homelessness one person at a time through music and peace in Central Florida. Join, volunteer + make change.

Be a volunteer: http://rockforhunger.ning.com/page/volunteer-1

It starts in Orlando

Rock for Hunger was started by a group of students at the University of Central Florida. With the passion of making a difference in the community, and changing people's life, these students choose music as their driving force of getting the community involved to end poverty. Their community is the city where they reside, and the world in which they live. Starting city by city, state by state, country to country, and continent to continent, this group hopes to inspire people of all cultures to join them with music and in peace, and end the growing problem of poverty.

Only by everyone working together we can make the world a better place. Through a series of benefit concerts, we hope to raise awareness about local and global Hunger and Homelessness, and end poverty in Central Florida.

Music gets people together, music can send a powerful message, and music can spread peace.

Rock for Hunger is working on building the bridge between other nonprofit Organizations, companies, churches, and individuals who all see to end Poverty! Rock for Hunger is currently developing programs that will help provide food, shelter, education, job/business skills, life skills (such as budgeting, etc.), and many other needs that will help willing individuals break their cycle of poverty, and remain out of it. In Orlando, FL we have started a group that goes to bring food, clothes, entertainment, and companionship to the homeless every Monday. Our goal is to inspire people of all walks of life to start groups such as these in their communities all over the United States. It is highly important that we care for each other, and end the problems within our community. We can not end poverty worldwide without being able to end poverty in our own country. Only by working together as one community in peace, can we end poverty in our own country.

There are over 75 Million people living in Poverty in the US, of which 25% are Children!

The ONES who answered the call...

Dear Alan & Tywonn, our love and prayers always with you. God continues to make you reach the goal He has for you ! Blessings from the Father be with you guys.
***

Alan & Tywonn have been on a mission to reach Africa for some time now. The next question would be…why a mission to reach Africa? Well, one of the reasons we are so passionate about Africa is because Alan would like to be a counselor to missionaries located in Africa. Patrick Johnstone and Jason Mandryk in their book, Operation World, state that there are more than 17,500 missionaries doing missions in Africa. That means that there is a great need to provide counseling services to missionaries who encounter such things on a daily basis as depression, trauma, grief, stress and burnout, and adjustment problems. Without a counselor located in Africa, the missionary or missionary kid who experiences these issues would have to travel back to the United States or to Europe to get counseling. That is why Alan is looking to birth a counseling center in Cameroon designed to provide therapy for missionaries, missionary kids, and expatriates in the Central Africa region.

Another reason Tywonn and Alan are fanatical about Africa is because this is where Tywonn can begin to use her nursing gifts in an African setting. As many of you know, there is a rampant spread of the AIDS epidemic across all of Africa. This disease was killing approximately 6,000 people per day in 1999. There is no telling what that number has risen to now. Not only does Tywonn have a heart for healing the sick, but also for teaching Africans how to be trained medical professionals. There are many medical centers located in and around the capital of Cameroon (Yaounde) where Tywonn is hoping to plug in and use her nursing skills as God sees fit.

We truly believe that God is a great and powerful God and that we are but small, insignificant creatures. But God has seen fit to use us in His plan. It is our hope that He works in spite of us as we venture into Africa to share the gifts He has blessed us with.

Journey with us as we go. Let us be your eyes, ears, and voice in Africa."

Helping Step By Step

HelpingStepByStep was founded to raise awareness of the growing problem of homelessness, here in the United States. Its main focus is centered around helping the estimated 1.35 million children who live on our streets every day, with its numbers growing at a staggering rate. Despite the wealth that our country has we are faced with an economic downturn that is affecting those most vulnerable and unable to help themselves, children.

HelpingStepByStep founder David Ashby, will be embarking on a 1100 mile trek on foot from Orlando, Florida to Washington DC.. Taking approximately two months to complete. Scheduled to start in June of 2009, David will be making stops along the way at the local homeless shelters, to meet with the children residing there. His goal is to talk with these children and give them a voice, by sharing their experiences, thoughts and fears with the world. His memoir of these events written as they unfold will be shared via the website and also in print.

To truly get a hands on experience of what it is to be homeless, he will be living as though he were. By staying in shelters, sleeping on the streets, and begging for his next meal. You cannot fully appreciate their plight until you have walked a mile in their shoes.

HelpingStepByStep hopes to make a change in the lives of these children. Giving them a voice and most of all, hope, that they have not been forgotten.

Please join us in this effort. One person can truly make a difference, but a group of people can change the world. YES WE CAN!

Anti-Feeding Ordinance in Orlando is Defeate

The Anti-Feeding Ordinance in Orlando has finally been defeated! After years of struggle to share food with the homeless, Pastor Brian Nicholes, Orlando Food Not Bombs, and others have defeated the ordinance that made it illegal to feed groups of 25 or more in Orlando Parks. The passing of this ordinance has made it very difficult for many groups, charities, and churches to feed the homeless downtown. Some stopped their feeding programs all together, and some organizations even went out of business, such as the Ripple Effect. We are now free to serve those in need in any public park!!!

Over the past 18 months Rock for Hunger has been holding their Food Sharing on federal property in Downtown Orlando to avoid any trouble from local law enforcement or with the city. Finally with the victory over the Anti-Feeding Ordinance in Orlando, we can hope for many groups to come back to serve the needy in hopes to get us closer to the goal of ending homelessness in Central Florida! Check out the article in the Orlando Sentinel here.
